The new incentives for the spread of self-consumption of energy from renewable sources, recently introduced by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, will presumably help in the spread of renewable energy communities on Italian territory. There remain, however, several controversial aspects in the regulation of energy communities that deserve further consideration, since they raise critical issues of both an operational and systematic nature.
