The paper aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the street and waterway network in Altinum and its immediate surroundings, from the Early Imperial period to Late Antiquity. This examination is conducted through the lens of archaeological research. Particular emphasis is placed on the recent excavations carried out by the University of Venice, which have provided new information related to road infrastructure and sewage disposal systems. This study will explore how various types of infrastructure in Altinum were adapted to suit the city’s necessities and its specific environment, considering on-site findings along with the scientific literature on the subject, to reflect ultimately on human interactions with lagoon-like landscapes in antiquity.
