This contribution examines two passages that refer to the settlement patterns in the Venetia region: the first (Mart. ep. 4, 25) praises the villae maritimae of the shores near Altinum, while the second (Cassiod. var. 12, 24) compares the lagoon dwellings to the nests of aquatic birds. The contextualization of these two literary sources aims to enhance their information potential and to trace the historical evolution of coastal settlements.
