The contribution presents a critical review of the volumes (monographs, conference proceedings, and collections of studies) published in the fouryear period 2019-2022 concerning the history of Greek Sicily and the ancient historians who have dealt with (also) the island. Given the increasing richness and complexity of the scientific production, the review is structured around some thematic nodes on which the attention of the studies under examination seems to have focused. Most of the research follows lines of investigation that are somewhat traditional, but with developments and results still deserving of interest: Sicily and Magna Graecia, colonization, political relations, autocratic figures, cults, identities. Other investigations interpret newer perspectives, that align closely with the pressures of contemporaneity and capable of oπering original insights: think especially of all the themes related to the so-called spatial turn, or the attention to the environment and natural resources that eπectively reinterpret aspects connected to economic history. Overall, it emerges how research on Sicily increasingly interacts with broader and more general lines of research, where the West is observed and understood within a long-term Mediterranean framework.

Abstract
Overall, it emerges how research on Sicily increasingly interacts with broader and more general lines of research, where the West is observed and understood within a long-term Mediterranean framework.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
