This paper returns to Calderón’s military memorial to offer a new generic reading of the document: thus, its structure and meaning are discussed from the perspective of the soldiers autobiography; then, an attempt is made to clarify some theories about the poet’s military career and the supposed silence in the text about his youthful stay in Flanders.
