This study is based on archive documents concerning the business activities of various second-hand dealers and art appraisers in Pesaro. Their business was regulated by the Ministry of Trade, which issued professional licences. The paper describes the leading figures on the Pesaro art market. Not only dealers but also local artists and scholars were often involved in important commercial exchanges between the city in the Marche and the main Italian art centres, primarily Rome but also Milan, as evidenced by some examples of purchases and sales.
