The article consists of a brief introduction to the text in translation from Japanese to Italian of the 2011 essay ‘Shirakawa no seki o koete’ by author Tawada Yōko. The essay was written by the author in the aftermath of the Tohoku triple disaster and anticipates some themes that will later be developed in Tawada's post-Fukushima narrative; the introduction aims to contextualise the text and give some information on the type of translation that was carried out.
