Abstract

The proper management of conversation among children is pivotal for any group activity with them. Socio-emotional learning curricula developed experimented activities for teaching children conversation skills, which can be enhanced by tangible interactive playful solutions for conveying conversation rules. This paper moves along such lines and presents the design and current evaluation of a tangible interactive playful object for children: TurnTalk. Enhanced with “calm technology”, TurnTalk promotes the scaffolding of a balanced conversation in group, in terms of turns taken in talking. The paper overviews its design rationale, choices and current evaluation results.
