The contribution opens a special issue of the journal on the precariousness of intellectual work, particularly that of anthropologists, who in Italy do not see their professionalism adequately recognized either in the academic or extra-university fields. Ironically both on the idealism that permeates the construction of the professional identity of anthropologists, and on the murky and sometimes ruthless dynamics of the academic career, the article plays on the metaphor of the hermit who voluntarily left the temple in search of an ethical application of the discipline, in the jungle of socio-economic precariousness.

Abstract
The contribution opens a special issue of the journal on the precariousness of intellectual work, particularly that of anthropologists, who in Italy do not see their professionalism adequately recognized either in the academic or extra-university fields. Ironically both on the idealism that permeates the construction of the professional identity of anthropologists, and on the murky and sometimes ruthless dynamics of the academic career, the article plays on the metaphor of the hermit who voluntarily left the temple in search of an ethical application of the discipline, in the jungle of socio-economic precariousness.File in questo prodotto:
