Abstract

The attention of the leaders of the great religions to the climate and environmental crises is a phenomenon that must interest us today because when we speak of "great religions" we also speak of "masses of believers", and therefore of the possibility that such attention leads to statistically critical changes in moral attitudes towards the environment. The article discusses how, historically, in the face of the multiplication of environmentalisms, Buddhist environmentalism since the last decades of the twentieth century, has played a pioneering role in the moral and practical mobilization for the protection of ecosystems and non-human sentient beings.
