How do language learners relate to the problem of pronunciation? A survey was conducted among a panel of language students in Venice to probe their spontaneous opinions and attitudes on foreign accents. This paper presents the survey and compares the results obtained, discussed and published for the whole panel, whose majority languages are English, Spanish, Russian, French and German, with the group of FLE students only. The results show that the native speaker model is still very important and the horizon to be reached for the students, who nevertheless integrate the awareness of being satisfied with a foreign accent, even if the French speakers appear to be a little more demanding.

Abstract
How do language learners relate to the problem of pronunciation? A survey was conducted among a panel of language students in Venice to probe their spontaneous opinions and attitudes on foreign accents. This paper presents the survey and compares the results obtained, discussed and published for the whole panel, whose majority languages are English, Spanish, Russian, French and German, with the group of FLE students only. The results show that the native speaker model is still very important and the horizon to be reached for the students, who nevertheless integrate the awareness of being satisfied with a foreign accent, even if the French speakers appear to be a little more demanding.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
