In this introduction to the special issue, we examine the geographical imaginations of ‘EUrope’s’ encounters with its geographical others. The premise is that these encounters are key to the understanding of European identity issues, as they are the sites of the negotiation of cultural and political bounda-ries between EUrope and non-EUrope.
