Machine (assisted) translation for translator training

Machine translation and computer-aided translation no longer belong only to specialized fields, but inform the work of a great many professional translators and translation users. After a brief overview of the evolution of research in the field of machine translation and the main types of computer tools and programs specifically designed or usable for translation activities, the relevance and possible ways of using these technologies for translator training are examined. The perspective adopted is to ascertain the advantages and benefits that can be derived from the use of translator workstations,” and more generally from the applications of computational linguistics, in a context in which (future) translators maintain their centrality as intercultural communication professionals and language services providers.
