Intorno a Carpaccio 2023. John Ruskin, Guide to the Principal Pictures in the Academy of Fine Arts at Venice. A Critical Edition, with Other Texts on Carpaccio and Venetian Painting

After quickly reviewing the main scholarly innovations on Carpaccio that have appeared in recent years, the article centres on the recent publication of J. Ruskin’s volume, “Guide to the Principal Pictures in the Academy of Fine Arts at Venice”, edited by P. Tucker (Edizioni Ca' Foscari, 2023). The author delves in particular into the relationship between Ruskin and Carpaccio, focusing on the English art historian's changing view of this extraordinary painter, strongly influenced by his personal events.
