This study aims to analyse the pars of the Corpus inscriptionum Latinarum dedicated to the Dalmaticae incertae, the inscriptions traced back by Theodor Mommsen to the Dalmatian territory, despite the lack of evidence regarding their origin. Specifically, in the light of the Dalmatia’s case study, this work investigates the criteria that led to this choice, framing them in the wider overview of the methodologies that gave life to the Corpus. Moreover, by stressing in which way the problematic nature of the inscriptions territorial attribution has conditioned the CIL editorial and scientific project, some passages of Mommsen’s analysis are retraced to understand to what extent the monumental and formal elements may have contributed to his scientific evaluations. For this purpose, it is taken into consideration the mainly unknown sixteen-century collection of Daniele Vitturi Lippomano.

Abstract
For this purpose, it is taken into consideration the mainly unknown sixteen-century collection of Daniele Vitturi Lippomano.I documenti in ARCA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
