Qualche riflessione intorno al racconto scitico delle origini in Erodoto (Hdt. IV, 5–7)

At the beginning of Book IV of the Stories, Herodotus presents several accounts about the more or less mythical origins of the Scythians. With this work, I want to offer an analysis of the first of them, which the Greek historian attributes to the Scythians themselves, underlying that its real meaning can be grasped only considering the data provided by the comparison with the other Indo-Iranian peoples, in a chronological arc that goes from the distant common past to the most recent and modern Ossetians of the Caucasus.

All’inizio del IV libro delle Storie, Erodoto presenta diversi racconti riguardo alle origini, più o meno mitiche, degli Sciti. Con questo lavoro, voglio offrire un’analisi del primo di essi, quello che lo storico greco attribuisce agli Sciti stessi, sottolineando come il suo reale significato si possa cogliere solamente alla luce dei dati forniti dalla comparazione con gli altri popoli indoiranici, in un arco cronologico che va dal lontano passato comune ai più recenti e moderni Osseti del Caucaso.
