"The identities of scribes, glossators, and owners of manuscripts are often unknown, but this is not the case of Bessarion, whose life and period deeply influence his cultural mission. To preserve the Greek [phone] (voice) he created a national library by collecting manuscripts. Bessarion displayed a philosophical and philological interest in the text of the manuscripts: this paper focuses on the marginalia he added in Marc. Gr. Z. 186 (Venezia, BNM, Marcianus Gr. Z. 186 [coll. 601]) in the folia of the Laches by Plato. For most of the dialogues, this manuscript was the basis of the luxurious Plato edition preserved in Marc. Gr. Z. 184 (Venezia, BNM, Marcianus Gr. Z. 184 coll. 326)" (p. 169)
