This essay is concerned with archaeological investigations in Venice done in two cycles of fieldwork that were undertaken in collaboration with M. De Min and E. Vio over a span of thirty years. Here one of the wider aims is to place our innovative research at early sites in Venice and the lagoon in the wider context of my previous experience in Rome and Athens. In particular, attention is directed to the new tools and methods that I and a team of specialists brought to Venice and to what we could now learn about the progressive buildup of the land surfaces at them over the centuries. In short, this was accomplished by taking a new and more interdisciplinary approach that drew upon environmental archaeology and landscape archaeology as they are called today.

Abstract
This essay is concerned with archaeological investigations in Venice done in two cycles of fieldwork that were undertaken in collaboration with M. De Min and E. Vio over a span of thirty years. Here one of the wider aims is to place our innovative research at early sites in Venice and the lagoon in the wider context of my previous experience in Rome and Athens. In particular, attention is directed to the new tools and methods that I and a team of specialists brought to Venice and to what we could now learn about the progressive buildup of the land surfaces at them over the centuries. In short, this was accomplished by taking a new and more interdisciplinary approach that drew upon environmental archaeology and landscape archaeology as they are called today.I documenti in ARCA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
