The translations and international editions of Poem Strip, sometimes in pocket format, have helped to make Buzzati’s art widely known, thanks to the self anthologising nature of this masterpiece. Rightly or wrongly, it is considered to be the precursor of the graphic novel. There is no doubt that the narrative framework is built around the myth of Orpheus, into which Buzzati poured homogeneous but diverse material, such as verbal and visual citations and self-citations, almost like a mosaic.
