The adoption and adaptation of the Etruscan writing for the notation of the Italian Celtic are part of a process of identity definition, triggered by the relationship with the Etruscan-Italic cultural model. The aim of this contribution is to highlight some key points of the process of alphabetic acquisition by the Celts of Italy, starting from the analysis of epigraphic documents coming from the area of Golasecca dated between the 7th and 6th centuries a.C.. In particular, the inscription from Sesto Calende – representative of the various attestations of the presence of Etruscan writing in the Po Valley and the area of Golasecca – is considered as evidence of the context of social and cultural contact that creates the preconditions for subsequent local adaptation. On the other hand, in inscriptions such as those of the archaic glass of Castelletto Ticino, the stela of Vergiate and the stela of Prestino, I have underlined some characteristics that point out the heterogeneous way in which the Etruscan alphabetic traditions are adapted to the needs of a local language, even in a Celtic context like the Venetic one.
