This study provides a critical analysis of verbal and visual techniques used in participatory research with chil-dren aged 3 to 8 years. Based on a review of the international literature, it identifies the strengths and weak-nesses of these techniques, taking into account children’s cognitive, emotional and social competences. The main aim is to identify strategies that encourage children’s active participation, allowing them to express their experiences and opinions. The importance of integrating perceptual-visual approaches together with verbal techniques to promote effective communication and relationships with children is emphasised. This research proposes an in-depth analysis of the current state of participatory research with children, high-lighting the challenges associated with the techniques used.
