The aim of these pages is to introduce some ontological issues arising from the IT debate on Smart Cities. The analysis starts by describing what “Smart City Ontologies” (SCO) are and by showing some of their main purposes and paradigmatic examples. Then, it is outlined a possible strategy for the design of a SCO suitable for integrating data of different smart applications, developed both in local and global contexts.
