This work proposes a review of Cervantes’ farewell in the prologue of Persiles («Adiós, gracias; adiós, graces; adiós, regocijados amigos…») as a mock-serious text that plays with the rhetorical scheme of authorial farewells and explains its meaning within of the funeral tradition, also reviewing the critics’ comments.
