The aim of this paper is the analysis of the marginal notes of a well-known twelfth-century manuscript, Firenze, Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana, Pl. 15 dex. 6, from the Franciscan convent of Santa Croce. The history of the manuscript (which bears one of the oldest poetic texts in the Italian vernacular, the so-called “Ritmo Laurenziano”) is reconstructed until his arrival in the Franciscan cloister around 1307. In Santa Croce, the book was read and annotated by several 14th-century hands. The friars were interested in updating the calendar by adding saints from a Florentine point of view.
