The paper discusses the paradoxes in the continuity between the Catholic missionary critique to the recruitment of indigenous populations in the 'rubber boom' in Bolivian Amazonia (during the end of 19th century and beginnings of 20th century), and the more complicated link established between the Chacobo (Panoan) and the Summer Institute of Linguistic missionaries, who since 1955 to 1980 explicitly encouraged them to be involved in the rubber industry and the regional market.

Abstract
The paper discusses the paradoxes in the continuity between the Catholic missionary critique to the recruitment of indigenous populations in the 'rubber boom' in Bolivian Amazonia (during the end of 19th century and beginnings of 20th century), and the more complicated link established between the Chacobo (Panoan) and the Summer Institute of Linguistic missionaries, who since 1955 to 1980 explicitly encouraged them to be involved in the rubber industry and the regional market.File in questo prodotto:
