The article presents a socio-anthropological reflection on the transmission of catholic religious memory at the heart of families descended from Italian immigrants in Buenos Aires. The analytic perspective adopted is determined by the specific method of participant observation employed: an intergenerational study which was carried out by interviewing three generation of the same family. The different views of granparents, children and grandchildren allows for a reflection on generational changes, on the lines of continuity and change and, starting from the specific case of Italian Argentine families, setting forth some more general considerations about the symbolic and spiritual Argentine imagination.
