This paper explores the concept of Zeitbild, which can be translated s ‘image of an era’. This kind of image is a very particular one, not only because it assumes that time can be captured and pictured, but also because it seems to have a revolutionary power. Indeed, to imagine the time we live in is the first step to imagining another time for the future. I will briefly review the philosophical perspectives of three authors who have thought about the time-image relationship, in order to show both whether it is possible to imagine time and whether it is something desirable. The conclusion is that imaging time is the opposite of revolutionary action.

Abstract
This paper explores the concept of Zeitbild, which can be translated s ‘image of an era’. This kind of image is a very particular one, not only because it assumes that time can be captured and pictured, but also because it seems to have a revolutionary power. Indeed, to imagine the time we live in is the first step to imagining another time for the future. I will briefly review the philosophical perspectives of three authors who have thought about the time-image relationship, in order to show both whether it is possible to imagine time and whether it is something desirable. The conclusion is that imaging time is the opposite of revolutionary action.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
