The portrait of Laura Dianti painted by Titian has been the subject of different looks throughout its history, becoming from time to time the portrait of a concubine, a mistress, a wife, of an exotic beauty. The details of her clothing were interpreted accordingly, under the lens of decorum, virtue, exoticism. Thanks to some woodcuts linked to ferrarese manifacturers preserved in the State Archive of Ravenna, we can add a new reading of the painting, which shows a Laura Dianti dressed in the best productions of local manufacturers, some of which are intimately linked to her own history. Not so much Laura Dianti as an ante litteram influencer, but as a woman representing the fashion and the taste of her times and places.

Abstract
The portrait of Laura Dianti painted by Titian has been the subject of different looks throughout its history, becoming from time to time the portrait of a concubine, a mistress, a wife, of an exotic beauty. The details of her clothing were interpreted accordingly, under the lens of decorum, virtue, exoticism. Thanks to some woodcuts linked to ferrarese manifacturers preserved in the State Archive of Ravenna, we can add a new reading of the painting, which shows a Laura Dianti dressed in the best productions of local manufacturers, some of which are intimately linked to her own history. Not so much Laura Dianti as an ante litteram influencer, but as a woman representing the fashion and the taste of her times and places.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
