In the general oblivion of the sources that characterizes the history of Selinus, some isolated information emerges on the natural environment that must have characterized the original site: the selinon - the canting type of Selinus coinage - and the dwarf palm. Both have contributed to creating a particular local landscape which in the first case has become a mental landscape, a place of memory for the community in exile, and a place of romantic abandonment for the Latin literary tradition in the second. The contribution will be conducted through a dichotomous analysis between emic and ethical vision, in the light of the current re-evaluation of the local sense of place in antiquity studies.

Abstract
In the general oblivion of the sources that characterizes the history of Selinus, some isolated information emerges on the natural environment that must have characterized the original site: the selinon - the canting type of Selinus coinage - and the dwarf palm. Both have contributed to creating a particular local landscape which in the first case has become a mental landscape, a place of memory for the community in exile, and a place of romantic abandonment for the Latin literary tradition in the second. The contribution will be conducted through a dichotomous analysis between emic and ethical vision, in the light of the current re-evaluation of the local sense of place in antiquity studies.I documenti in ARCA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
