The representation of everyday life, a topic that has been studied mainly from the social sciences, has recently challenged cultural researchers and theorists, who have focused attention on literature and the arts. Drawing on the work of Ben Highmore, Michael Sheringham and others, this book explores five crucial aspects of the everyday: routines and the disappearance of some traditions; the day-to-day experience in literature; public transport (route maps, stations that no longer exist, forgotten underground spaces); visits to death scenes, and the senses of food. Based on a selection of texts, the author approaches the poetics of the everyday with an innovative approach that provides an alternative outline of a world that is disappearing and that literature can make emerge.
