This paper proposes an analysis of the character of Capaneus within Statius’ Thebaid. In particular the essay focuses on the possible echoes of Lucretius' De rerum natura; the relationship between Capaneus and Menoeceus in Book 10 and finally, an attempt will be made to define the attitude of Statius as a narrator toward the character of Capaneus.
