A powerful ethical charge prevails in Alessandro Leogrande's reportages, devoted to investigate some of the most critical current topics, from migrations to labour in contemporary Italy. Specifically, the present article examines Uomini e caporali (2008), an investigative report about field laborers in Capitanata. It describes the narrative techniques used by Leogrande, reflecting upon the way he managed to deal with such a complex matter and to overcome the pitfalls of writing a hybrid work between fiction and non-fiction.
