In presenting the restoration carried out on the wall mosaic fragments of the first church of San Niccolò on the Venice Lido under an agreement between the Soprintendenza Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio per Venezia e Laguna and the Istituto Veneto per i Beni Culturali, this article introduces the archaeological materials that emerged from the 1982 excavations carried out on the site by Michele Tombolani. During the excavation campaign, a total of 5688 fragments of wall mosaic of various colours emerged, as well as fragments of floor mosaic, frescoes and ceramics that have yet to be investigated. The archaeological excavations also brought to light the foundations of the first church, featuring the massive presence of reused stone blocks.
