The paper offers an overview of the production technologies used in the manufacture of the Egyptian vitreous materials preserved at the Accademia dei Concordi in Rovigo. The investigations in USB digital microscopy, carried out within the EgittoVeneto project, have provided general indications regarding raw materials, shaping, glazing and decoration technologies employed. Thanks to this study, it was also possible to identify novel comparisons for some of the typologies considered, offering new suggestions about the chronology and, sometimes, the functional interpretation of the objects with respect to what was previously proposed in the published literature.

Abstract

The paper offers an overview of the production technologies used in the manufacture of the Egyptian vitreous materials preserved at the Accademia dei Concordi in Rovigo. The investigations in USB digital microscopy, carried out within the EgittoVeneto project, have provided general indications regarding raw materials, shaping, glazing and decoration technologies employed. Thanks to this study, it was also possible to identify novel comparisons for some of the typologies considered, offering new suggestions about the chronology and, sometimes, the functional interpretation of the objects with respect to what was previously proposed in the published literature.
