In this brief article, I aim to address how the Justice and Development Party (AKP)'s 20 years of uninterrupted rule has impacted civil society. To answer this question, I first capture the long history of civil society in Turkey. Then, I draw upon insights from multi-sited field- work in Turkey and five European countries between 2017 and 2022 to account for the AKP period.
