The essay is about the relationship of Richard Serra's sculpture with the space it is situated in, finding the differences between installing in landscape, in urban areas and architecture. When the scupture interacts with a urban space, and when it is installed in a pre-existing architecture, in stead of creating borders and horizons, sculpture points out present borders and puts them under strain. Morover, since architecture is always historically and culturally connotated, sculpture can be a visual commentary to the container it is situated in.
