Brexit, as well-known, is an unprecedented historic process of leaving the structures of the European Union by a Member State. Brexit symbolizes the transformation of political thought and fundamental changes in British society, revealed as a result of the Brexit referendum of 2016. Before it has come to the British departure from the EU, the United Kingdom has played an important role in the European integration process, from Winston Churchill’s idea of creating the “United States of Europe”, to becoming the first Member State in history to withdraw from the European Union. The aim of this essay is to examine the effects of Brexit on the new trade and economic relations between the European Union and the United Kingdom based on the new Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) concluded on Christmas Eve 2020, in order to better understand which will be the future of the free trade of goods and services between Britain and Continental Europe.
