Small Business Enterprises (SME) are responsible for the employability of many professionals in the market. With constant challenges, solutions are sought so that these organizations can achieve a better market positioning through competitive HRM for promoting structured and sustainable growth. This work aimed to diagnose efforts in an SME to improve HRM by respecting investment characteristics and financial limitations. The methodology used was the case study of an intellectual property company. There are answers that SMEs can find in a non-systematic and occasional way of management. Employees, aware of their roles, question the need for more effective actions for HRM policy improvement. Undoubtedly, implementing an HRM department in an SME is needed, considering the projections of the future of organizations and the collective interest in realizing the strategy better results in the market. In addition, the necessary training for employees would add value to the company in times of high competitiveness.

Abstract
