The article examines the relationship between tragedy and parody in Nietzsche's "Also sprach Zarathustra" - under the premise that Nietzsche's tragic pathos loses its ground in a world without God and turns into self-deprecating parody. This will be demonstrated by means of a close reading of exemplary text passages.
