The article focuses on a peculiar story of Agnellus of Ravenna's narrating the clashbetween the army of Ravenna and the Byzantines at the Campus Coriandri, an openspace not far from town. The story is isolated and never attested in othernarratives. Nevertheless, it constitutes a precious point of entry tounderstand the troubled identity of Ravenna in its relationships with theimperial past and contemporary tensions with Constantinople and Rome.
