In the broader context of the Veneto Region, the Provinces of Treviso, Vicenza, Padua, and Verona are part of that territorial nucleus which – both from an employment point of view and in terms of population – have seen the greatest increase of immigrant population. Therefore, this article takes into account the quantitative evidence con- cerning the role of industrial districts – a peculiar element of regional and the so-called Italian “North-East” economic development – within the evolution of the immigration in the local context. We will focus on the four Provinces above mentioned and the time in- terval between the beginning of the 1990s and the present day, which has been the one in which the numbers of immigration in Veneto ob- served the greatest increase. In presenting the data, the different evo- lutionary patterns that have differentiated the provincial socio-econom- ic trajectories will be taken into account.
