This article deals with foreign immigration in Venice, focusing primar- ily on the first decade of the 2000s. In Venice, migrant workers have increased quantitatively mainly between 2003 and 2005, and the phe- nomenon has progressively taken on different characteristics from the other Provinces of the Veneto Region, becoming a structural compo- nent of the local socio-economic context. The article offers an overview of the development of this phenomenon and aims to reconstruct the socio-demographic profile of immigrants, focusing on their insertion into Venice labour market. The progressive distribution over the territory and the quantitative increase of the youth and female component have contributed to the structuring process of migrants’ presence.
