The scientific archive of Sergio Bettini (1905-1986), professor at the University of Padua from the 1930s to 1975, is kept at Ca' Foscari University (Department of Philosophy and Cultural Heritage). In addition to manuscripts (of published and unpublished texts) and lecture notes, there are also notes and files and a collection of photographs (some of which were taken by Bettini himself). A large part of this material is the result of Bettini's travels to the East (particularly Greece, Crete, Constantinople) in the 1930s. These photographs (often mounted in cards) document not only the monuments and works, but also the travels, interests and critical maturation of the scholar who tackled Byzantine art in all its complexity, not only with the publications of those years, but up to the final works devoted to Venice.
