The celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Italian immigration in Rio Grande do Sul, in 1925, were an important moment in the memory building of the migration phenomenon. The article aims to analyze the content of the representation madri d’Italia found in the celebrations’ book and to understand what the expectations of women’s public action in the Italian ethnic community were. The photographs are a privileged source to understand in depth the twofold conception of the migrant women model.
