This paper takes into account the history of the collection of art and antiquities held by the Pagani family in Belluno; in par-ticular, it focuses on its epigraphic documents. This collection, acquired by Marino Pagani (1764-1815) in 1805-06, included about a dozen Latin inscriptions from Belluno and his territory, but also paintings, engravings, coins and medals. In 1847 the Pagani’s collection was increased by about a hundred inscriptions and antiquities coming from the collection held by the Nani family in Venice during the XVIIIth century. Between the middle of the XIXth and the beginning of the XXth century, the Pagani sold a large part of their own collection, especially the objects belonged to the Nani. During the First World War, all the remaining paintings were destroyed or stolen, whereas all the inscriptions were left intact; in 1959, they were donated to the Civic Museum of Belluno.
