The change of macroalgae and aquatic plant composition, in association with some environmental parameters and nutrient concentrations in the water column and surface sediments of the Venice Lagoon, has been investigated along ecological transects from the lagoon inlets to some enclosed fish ponds. The results highlight on the strong contrast between the open lagoon, where vegetation is more affected by human activities and the pristine flora and vegetation still present in some fish ponds, such as Val Cavallino and Val Dogà, that were preserved from anthropogenic influence
