The article analyses examples of acceptance and interpretation of the classical language of architecture in the workshop practice on the east coast of the Adriatic during the Early modern period. It discusses examples of reception and translations from contemporary printed treatises, quoting examples from Dubrovnik and Cres where hybridisation of local tradition and imported forms is clearly visible. The analysis of so-called Korčula sketchbook results in recognising the drawings of orders as derivation from Venetian Renaissance building practice. The fragment of the interpretation of the Vitruvian text by engineer G. B. Camozzini from Hvar Bučić family archive gives insight into active reading of the basic theoretical text on architecture. The presented observations address only a few examples and sites on the east coast of the Adriatic, but they are significant for the circulation of architectural models and patterns as well as a more structured knowledge on architecture in the Adriatic basin. The hybrid phenomena which result from this contact with imported motives are worth perceiving as creative and not necessarily inferior artistic expressions.
