The comparison between the commedia dell’arte Smeraldina spirito folletto (1733), in which Adriana took the leading role dur- ing her stay in St Petersburg, and La donna di garbo (1743), sheds light on the fact that Adriana’s acting style and the resources of the female figures she created exerted a decisive influence on Goldoni’s and Gozzi’s plays.
