Un nuovo testimone antiquior della Paracletica (fine IX-inizio X sec.). Frammenti in maiuscola ogivale dal Monte Athos

Research in the field of Byzantine hymnography is greatly benefiting from the discovery and the in-depth palaeographical and textual analysis of fragments from different kinds of medieval Greek hymnbooks. Many of these fragments were re-used as binding material for other manuscripts and their contents often help us trace back the early formative stages of liturgical books of the Greek Church. This article brings to light four unknown fragments – re-used in the MS Mount Athos, Mone tou Protatou 6 (11th c.) and 19 (12th c.) – from a Parakletike manuscript written in a slightly sloping ogival majuscule that can be dated between the end of the 9th-beginning of the 10th century (siglum: ). The importance of these fragments lies in the fact that they now represent the earliest witness to a ‘modern-type’ Parakletike and to the so-called ‘New Oktoechos’ by Joseph the Hymnographer (middle of the 9th c.) as well as the second but earliest finding of kanones of the ‘New Oktoechos’ in majuscule script.
