This contribution on the culture of living of the Early Modern Istrian nobility is focused on buildings owned by the Scampicchio family, whose continuous presence in the Labin area throughout the period is attested by a remarkably preserved family archive. Scampicchios are typical representatives of municipal nobility, whose ownership system demonstrates family needs and ambitions and includes palaces and houses in Labin, Motovun and Pula, villas Turanj near Labin and Sv. Ivan od Sterne, family chapel near Labin and hospital in the same city. The architecture of these buildings varies from what could be offered by masters such as the Labin stonemason Giovanni Pietro to interesting foreign-formed figures such as Gabriel le Terrier de Manetot.
